The founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and his spouse, Bushra Bibi, have submitted petitions to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) requesting the suspension of their sentencing in the 190 million pound case.
The petitions were submitted two months subsequent to the announcement of the ruling.
The petitions, presented by Barrister Salman Safdar, contend that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) abused its power with nefarious intent and that the court rendered a hasty judgment based on an inadequate investigation.
The petitions assert that the investigative agency did not acquire the actual language of the agreement from the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA), thereby questioning the transparency of the probe. Furthermore, it was noted that NCA officials were excluded from the inquiry.
The petitioners contend that the prosecution did not provide comprehensive evidence; hence, they have sought the court to postpone the sentence issued on January 17 and to provide bail pending a final resolution of the principal appeal.
The petition further guaranteed the court that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi will attend every hearing subsequent to the postponement of their sentence.
