According to reports, the Islamabad High Court Bar begged the top court to investigate the letter disaster transparently and punish individuals who disrespected IHC justices.
The plea said only a free judiciary can serve justice, therefore compromising it is never acceptable.
IHC justices’ letter alleging intelligence agency influence in court affairs was taken suo moto notice by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Qazi Faez Isa on April 1.
Following Supreme Court’s March 22 ruling on Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui’s dismissal, IHC top judges Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani, Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, Baqir Sattar, Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan, Arbab Muhammad Tahir, and Salman Rafat Imtiaz wrote the letter to SJC.
The top judges wrote to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) about a judge’s duty to report and respond to “incidents on part of members of the executive, including operatives of intelligence agencies, that seek to interfere with discharge of his/her official functions and qualify as intimidation”.
CJP Qazi Faez Isa hinted at a full court on the next hearing of the IHC judges’ claims in the maiden hearing on April 3.
Early in the hearing, CJP Isa ordered the attorney general to present the press release from the full court meeting.
