qualificationThe game organisers today officially announced the pairings for the javelin throw qualification, placing Arshad Nadeem and his Indian competitor Neeraj Chopra in Group B.

In addition to Nadeem and Chopra, the group also includes Edis Matusevicius, ranked 5th in the world, and Anderson Peters, ranked 6th in the world. Both athletes have surpassed the 90-metre mark this year.

The Group B activity will begin at 2:50 PM Pakistan Standard Time (PST) and will be broadcast live on Pakistan’s premier HD Sports Channel, A Sports. Additionally, it will be streamed live on ARY ZAP. Arshad is slated to be the sixth participant in the draw.

The minimum requirement for athletes to qualify for the final round of the javelin throw is 84 metres. The final round will be held on Thursday at the same location.

Twelve athletes will advance to the final round. However, if the designated number of athletes fails to achieve a distance of 84 metres, then the athletes with the highest throws after them will advance.

Notably, Arshad Nadeem is currently Pakistan’s sole contender for a medal at the upcoming Paris Olympics, since all their other athletes have been eliminated from the competition for medals.

Pakistan’s most recent Olympic medal victory was during the 1992 Summer Games in Barcelona. Nevertheless, Arshad remains optimistic about his ability to restore national pride by achieving a similar feat.

“I am physically fit and thoroughly prepared, and I have put in a significant amount of effort for this esteemed occasion,” he informed reporters in Lahore. “I am confident in my ability to attain my objective of securing a medal.”

The Pakistan team for the Paris Olympics consists of Arshad Nadeem and Faiqa Riaz in the athletics category, with Salman Iqbal Butt and Dr. Ali Sher Bajwa serving as support personnel.

Swimming participants include Mohammad Ahmed Durrani, Jehanara Nabi, and Lt Col (retired) Ahmed Ali Khan as support personnel.

The individuals involved in the shooting incident include Ghulam Mustafa Bashir, Gulfam Joseph, Kishmala Talat, Col. Junaid Ali (support personnel), and Gennady Solodovnikov (support staff).

The contingent officials for the event include Mohammad Shafiq as the chef de mission, Javaid Shamshad Lodhi as the deputy chef de mission, and Zainab Shaukat as the admin officer.
