LHC restores Lt Gen Munir Afsar, Chairman of NADRA

Lt. Gen. Munir Afsar was previously declared ineligible for appointment to the position of Chairman of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), but the Lahore High Court (LHC) has now reinstated him.

Following the hearing of an intra-court appeal contesting the dismissal of the NADRA chairman, a two-member panel led by Justice Chaudhary Muhammad Iqbal rendered the decision.

The main focus of the case was an appeal against the announcement of the chairman’s appointment made by the caretaker government.

The court inquired throughout the hearings as to which particular notification had been contested in the petition.

In elucidating that the application was limited to the notice given by the interim administration, the public advocate did not dispute any new regulations pertaining to such appointments.

Lt. Gen. Munir Afsar’s appointment has previously been ruled unlawful by Lahore High Court Justice Asim Hafeez.

Afsar has been restored to his position, subject to additional consideration, as per the recent order by the two-member bench.

The petitioner contended that the court ought to reverse the one-bench ruling that had ousted Chairman NADRA and let him return to his position.
