Statement by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on World Standards Day

Published

on

Pakistan participates with the global community to observe World Standards Day. The Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA), a National Standards Body, is actively collaborating with the global community and encouraging domestic manufacturers to embrace standardization and quality-centric practices, thus promoting a culture of excellence nationwide.
This year’s theme established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), “Shared Vision for a Better World,” emphasizes the critical importance of reliability and trust in fostering success within the industrial and service industries. Standards are fundamentally the basis that ensures the seamless operation of daily life. This theme encourages us to evaluate the competitiveness of our products in the global market.
In accordance with our dedication to public safety, health, and the environment, I am pleased to emphasize that the PSQCA has established stringent safety standards for motor vehicles to safeguard the lives of our citizens. A significant accomplishment is the establishment of a 2% cap on industrially generated Trans Fatty Acids (iTFA) in food goods, a crucial measure for mitigating cardiovascular illnesses in Pakistan. These initiatives demonstrate our commitment to prioritizing the welfare of our populace through thorough and efficient standards.
The expansion of Pakistan’s exports is strongly correlated with the adherence of our goods and services to international standards. This alignment fosters global consumer confidence in Pakistani products, expands prospects for our enterprises internationally, and stimulates sustainable economic progress. Adherence to these standards provides a competitive edge, allowing organizations to fulfill consumer requirements via enhanced organizational and manufacturing processes. I am assured that this year’s World Standards Day festivities will substantially enhance awareness regarding the significance of standards. In a time characterized by competitive pressures, such understanding is essential for the government, industry, and business sectors to guarantee global customer pleasure. I reaffirm the Government of Pakistan’s dedication to assisting pertinent organizations in attaining the highest global standards and expediting Pakistan’s progress toward sustainable economic development.
Long live Pakistan!

Boyfriend disputes rape claim
Refuting any such occurrence, the father of a girl who was allegedly assaulted by a security officer at a private institution said that the ongoing rallies in his daughter’s honour are baseless.

“Protests are being based on our daughter, but they have nothing to do with her,” he claimed. He clarified that his daughter had fallen at home, breaking her back and requiring an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) hospitalisation.

“We have given the police our daughter’s medical reports,” he continued, looking shocked after seeing video of the protests involving his daughter. “People who are mothers can relate to this suffering,” he underlined.
