Wapda announces a revised timeline for the K-4 water project in Karachi.

The long-awaited K-4 water project, which was intended to alleviate Karachi’s water shortage, has become a pipe dream for the people of the city. Even after almost 20 years, the project is still unfinished, and half of Karachi lacks a sufficient supply of water.

Fifty percent of the project’s current phase has been finished, according to WAPDA. Deadlines for the project were originally scheduled for 2023 and 2024, but they were missed. December 2025 has been added as the latest completion date.

Due to the delay, the project’s estimated cost has climbed from Rs126 billion to Rs180 billion. Moreover, the phase of augmentation, which is essential to guaranteeing water supply throughout Karachi, has not yet begun. This phase’s overall cost has increased by Rs10 billion, to Rs80 billion.

The city’s water crisis is made worse by the delay, and residents are still suffering.

Delivering water from the K-4 project to every part of Karachi requires the augmentation phase to be finished. However, with significant portions of the work still pending, the resolution of the city’s water crisis remains uncertain.
