Speaking at the newly elected office-bearers of the Islamabad High Court Journalists Association (IHCJA) at their oath-taking ceremony, Chief Justice Aamer Farooq declared that the media represents the fourth pillar of state.
The chief justice commended the newly elected IHCJA board and stressed the importance of the media in educating the public about legal procedures.
According to him, a court’s decision becomes public information. While it is possible to criticize the judgments, accurate reporting of the facts is as important.
As holders of public office, they were liable, according to the chief justice. Decisions can be made incorrectly, which is why some individuals used to appeal to the highest court.
Chief Justice Aamer Farooq reaffirmed that while he could appreciate the media’s need for “spicy content,” it was crucial that they practice ethical and professional journalism.
Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri of the IHC, Naveed Hayat Malik, President of the Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCBA), Secretary General Asif Bashir Chaudhry of the RIUJ, Additional Attorney General Munawar Dogal, Deputy Attorney General Raja Arsahd Kayani, Assistant Attorney General Azmat Bashir Tarar, and senior journalists Saghir Ahmed Chaudhry, Aamer Saeed Abbasi, Afzal Javed, President Supreme Court Press Association Aqeel Afzal, and others were present at the ceremony.
