Aitchison College appoints a new principal.

The appointment of SM Turab Hussain was approved during a meeting of the Aitchison Board of Directors, which was headed by Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider.

Ali Ayaz Sadiq, Mustafa Ramday, Ali Pervez, and Khawaja Hassan were present at the meeting. The position of the principal remained unfilled following Michael Thompson’s resignation.

The Aitchison College tuition waiver dispute gained attention in March when Principal Michael Thompson resigned due to alleged political meddling by the family of Federal Minister Ahad Cheema.

Michael Thompson resigned from his position, alleging that the family of Federal Minister Ahad Cheema pressured him to exempt holiday costs.

The Principal of Aitchison College asserted that he refused the request for a fee exemption, nevertheless, the Governor House Secretariat exercised its power to issue a notification granting the waiver.

After Principal Thompson resigned, the then-Punjab Governor, Balighur Rehman, announced that an audit of the principal’s remuneration was launched due to his receipt of a salary of Rs4 million.

Cheema declined to take advantage of the policy and stated in a letter to Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman that Aitchison College Principal Michael Thompson had personally approached him about the issue.

The minister asserted that he had multiple proposals to resolve the issue about his boys’ payments, but he refused to accept any illicit or covert agreement. In addition, Cheema expressed his strong disapproval at the lack of respect shown towards his family during the entire incident.
