Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, the former finance minister, has stated that Pakistan requires $50 billion to address climate change.

Pakistan is the sixth most vulnerable nation to the harsh effects of climate change, according to Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, who spoke at the third Pakistan Climate Conference. She claimed that just 1.8% of the money needed to address climate concerns had been provided to the nation.

Dr. Akhtar called on the government to act to get international organisations to pay for climate change initiatives. Pakistan’s GDP has decreased by 3% as a result of climate concerns, she noted.

Green sukuk bonds have been introduced to improve climate financing in the nation, according to the previous finance minister. A viable alternative, she continued, was to offer financial solutions for green financing.

In order to guarantee the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor’s (CPEC) success, Dr. Shamshad Akhtar emphasised the necessity of developing a green energy policy.
