Four security personnel martyred in KP terror attacks

TANK: At least four security personnel were martyred in two different terrorists attacks in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Geo News reported Friday.

At least two security personnel martyred and seven others injured after terrorists attacked the Nala Joint Post in Khyber district of the province.

During the attack, the terrorists used heavy weapons including hand grenades.

According to Hayatabad Medical Complex Hospital administration, seven injured personnel of Frontier Constabulary have been shifted to the facility, whose condition is said to be out of danger.

The injured personnel have been admitted to neurosurgery, surgical and orthopaedic wards of the hospital.

Separately, at least two policemen embraced martyrdom and three others sustained injuries in a terrorist attack in Police Lines in KP’s Tank district, Geo News reported.

According to police, the militants targeted the police in the wee hours on Friday.

In retaliation, one terrorist was killed while Dera Road was closed for traffic, they said, adding that a search operation is underway in the area.

According to hospital sources, the injured policemen have been shifted to a hospital.

The latest attacks come days after at least 23 soldiers embraced martyrdom and many others were injured when six suicide bombers rammed an explosive-laden truck into a military base in the troubled Daraban area of Dera Ismail Khan district early Tuesday, according to security officials.

“In early hours of December 12, 2023, a group of six terrorists attacked a security forces post in the Daraban area of Dera Ismail Khan. The attempt to enter the post was effectively thwarted, which forced the terrorists to ram an explosive-laden vehicle into the post, followed by a suicide bombing attack. The resulting blasts led to the collapse of the building, causing multiple casualties; twenty-three brave soldiers embraced shahadat, while all six terrorists were effectively engaged and sent to hell,” the Inter- Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated in a statement. 

A little-known militant group, Tehreek-e-Jihad-e-Pakistan (TJP), claimed responsibility for one of the deadliest attacks on Pakistani security forces.

Terror attacks in KP

The outgoing year witnessed an alarming rise in terror-related incidents in the country in general and in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in particular as at least 470 security personnel and civilians were killed in the province, so for.

According to statistics available with Geo News, 470 people were killed in 1,050 terror-related incidents in one year alone.

As per the record of the provincial home department and tribal affairs, 698 security personnel and citizens were killed in 1,823 terror-related incidents during the past three years.

Seven areas along the Pak-Afghan border in KP remained “terrorism hotspots” during the outgoing year. The areas include Peshawar, Khyber, North Waziristan, South Waziristan, Dera Ismail Khan, Bajaur and Tank.

Out of the 1,050 terror-related incidents, 419 were reported in bandobasti, 631 in the erstwhile Fata, 201 in North Waziristan, 169 in Khyber, 121 in South Waziristan, 98 in DI Khan, 62 in Bajaur, 61 each in Tank and Peshawar.
