Health Reforms in Punjab: Punjab Government to Outsource Rural Health Care Services in the Province

The Punjab Government has decided to outsource rural health centers in the province to improve health services for the population.
A special meeting on the Health Sector, convened by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, made this decision.
During the discussion, the Chief Minister was informed that the proportion of patients in health centers has tripled since young doctors assumed administration of the clinics, while over seven million patients have benefited from the Clinic on Wheels program throughout Punjab.
The Chief Minister was apprised that the refurbishment of Two Hundred and Twenty-Five Rural Health Centers in the province has been finalized and converted into New Clinics.
She was notified that the health clinics will function as the principal referral sites for patients and will be furnished with medical and diagnostic amenities.
Following the outsourcing of Rural Health Centers, new clinics will operate 24 hours a week, offering facilities for general surgery, gynecology, diagnostics, medical tests, and additional services.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed the authorities to develop and extend the access roads to Sambli General Hospital in Murree.
She directed the personnel to implement the OPD at the Nawaz Sharif Institute in Sargodha by June and to activate Jinnah Hospital Pic-ii by September 30.
The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure the operational readiness of the Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital within the designated timeframe and to expedite the completion of the nominating process for boards of governors and other procedures.
The meeting evaluated the plan to establish a Medical City at the divisional level for the treatment of all diseases and concurred on the establishment of a Burn Unit, cardiac center, and children’s ward at the district level.
The concept to create a giant medical metropolis near Lahore Ring Road was also discussed in the conference.
The conference said that free pharmaceuticals worth over Rs 6.7 billion have been dispensed in OPDs across Punjab, and over two thousand five hundred persons have benefited from the Chief Minister’s children’s heart surgery program.
The Chief Minister of Punjab stated that the administration’s objective is to achieve a 100% enhancement in the province’s government hospitals.
