In his third tenure as Indian prime minister, PM Shehbaz Sharif congratulates Modi.

Greetings and congratulations to Narendra Modi on assuming office as the Prime Minister of India, the PM posted on his X timeline.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the Indian Bar Association (BJP), secured 293 seats in the general election, far fewer than expected. This is in contrast to the opposition, which had already secured 234 seats. Modi took office as prime minister of India on Sunday for a third term.

Notwithstanding its resounding victories in the previous two elections, which defied exit polls and expert projections, Modi’s Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) did not reprise its dominance of the preceding ten years.

Rather, he was compelled to engage in urgent negotiations with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), a coalition of 15 members that ensured he would have the parliamentary majority necessary to rule.

During the formal assumption of power event, Narendra Modi pledged to “bear true allegiance to the constitution of India,” surrounded by high-ranking BJP officials and coalition party leaders.

With hundreds of people gathered to watch Modi, wearing a blue waistcoat and white kurta, take the oath, honor guards lined the presidential palace stairs.

Though leaders from China and Pakistan, two nearby adversaries, had noticeably not sent any high-ranking representatives, leaders from neighboring Bangladesh, the Maldives, and Sri Lanka attended the event.
