Meeting Regarding Essential Crops: DPM Dar Calls for Cooperation with Provincial Governments

Under Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar’s direction, the cabinet committee on vital crops convened a major conference.

Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain and Federal Secretary Waseem Ajmal Chaudhry headed the team on Ministry of National Food Security and Research.

The cabinet committee’s report on the wheat policy for Rabi 2024-25 was presented during the conference, including with a thorough analysis of the expected national needs and wheat output.

Federal Minister for National Food Security & Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, briefed the committee on the cultivated area for the current year and emphasized the importance of aligning agricultural strategies with domestic needs and farmers benefit. To improve per-acre yield and overall farm output, the committee also talked on unifying the federal and provincial agricultural research systems.

Ishaq Dar, the Deputy Prime Minister, underlined the need of consulting provincial governments to make sure policies help farmers and support sectoral stability.

The conference also discussed alternative market interventions to guarantee fair prices for farmers and preserve market stability as well as the wheat support pricing.

To help to improve and reinforce the policy framework, the Deputy Prime Minister instructed the finance minister to include important discussion points into the activities of the agricultural policy committee. The meeting reaffirmed the government’s commitment to stabilizing the agricultural economy through corrective measures, ensuring food security, and fostering growth in the farming sector.
