Speaking at a ceremony at Islamabad International Airport, Minister of Aviation Khawaja Asif conveyed his sincere appreciation for the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights to Europe that had resumed after a 4.5-year break.
Khawaja Asif stated, “I am so grateful to Allah for this milestone,” emphasizing that the reintroduction of PIA into European sky is a source of pride for the country. “Europe will once again fly the green crescent flag, reclaiming the identity we had long since lost.”
The minister declared that whether passengers are transiting in Paris or somewhere else, PIA wants to grow its operations across Europe and work with other airlines to offer access to destinations in the United States. He emphasized that in the near future, plans are being made to resume flights on three routes to Britain.
Khawaja Asif praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s steadfast support and the tireless work of his predecessor, Khawaja Saad Rafique, who personally oversaw the procedure. He declared, “Today is a historic day for PIA, civil aviation, and the government. Over the last eight to ten months, tremendous effort was put into restoring PIA operations.”
Additionally, he congratulated the officials who relentlessly worked to win the lifting of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) restriction and praised the collaboration of the European Union aviation authorities.
According to the minister, PIA is crucial to the worldwide stabilization of the airline sector. He promised to add new planes to PIA’s fleet shortly and said that efforts are on to regain the lost market. “We anticipate all flights to reach comparable booking levels in the coming days, as the outbound flight to France was fully booked,” he said.
Khawaja Asif reaffirmed the government’s intention to privatize PIA in order to guarantee its effectiveness and competitiveness in the international market. “It won’t take long for us to privatise PIA.”
Thousands more Pakistanis residing abroad in Europe are anticipated to gain from PIA’s flight restart, he said. “PIA used to transport Pakistani bodies from Europe to Pakistan at no cost, and we will keep doing this,” Khawaja Asif said.
Declaring, “Irresponsible statements in the past caused havoc for our national airline,” he criticized those in charge of the carrier’s previous scandals. Whoever damaged PIA’s reputation must be held accountable.
The minister reaffirmed the government’s resolve to uplift PIA’s standing and support its expansion in the cutthroat airline sector.
