Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif presided over a special meeting of the federal cabinet, which is said to have ended. According to sources, the purpose of the meeting was to examine the findings of the committee that was established during the caretaker government’s time to look into the events of May 9.

Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar provided a report on the May 9 occurrences during the meeting, and according to sources, it was discovered that PTI was directly responsible for the violence that day.

The federal cabinet has chosen to draft legislation in relation to the May 9 incident in light of the findings.

All of the cabinet members insisted that the criminal cases against the May 9 violence’s perpetrators be pursued to their inevitable end.

The cabinet members questioned why the perpetrators of the May 9 incidents had not yet been punished, but those involved in the Capital Hill incident had received punishment.

Today is the first anniversary of May 9, the day that attacks on military sites began in response to the detention of PTI founder Imran Khan.

After agitated rioters vandalised military posts and other private and public buildings on May 9, 2023, the government launched a harsh crackdown on PTI founder Imran Khan and his party.

May 9 was designated as “Black Day” by the Pakistan Army in response to the violent protests.

The Rawalpindi district government declared on Wednesday that Thursday will be “Black Day” in a notification.

May 9 is marked solemnly to demonstrate our dedication to safeguarding our nation’s high-security assets and honouring the honour of our valiant armed personnel.

Various ceremonies were held for professors and students in all educational institutions to emphasise the significance of May 9 as “Black Day.”

In response to the petitions for acquittal filed by Bushra Bibi and Imran Khan, the founders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), in the Toshakhana-II case, the Islamabad High Court on Thursday sent notifications to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and other parties.

Hearing the applications was Justice Raja Inam Ameen Minhas of the IHC. The judge said that there is no legal precedent for halting criminal proceedings at this point when Salman Safdar, Imran Khan’s attorney, requested a stay order on the trial in the Toshakhana-2 case during the hearing.

The court would also hear the other party and send notices regarding the petition, Justice Minhas noted.

Since Justice Gul Hassan Aurangzeb had previously heard five petitions pertaining to this case, Safdar later also filed a motion to transfer the case to another bench, stating that it would be proper to send the acquittal petitions to him for additional hearing.

According to Justice Minhas, who dismissed his plea, the petitions considered by Justice Aurangzeb were bail requests. This was a different issue, he remarked, and he would consider the case. He gave the attorney instructions to argue the case’s merits.

The PTI lawyer later pleaded the high court to halt proceedings of the trial court. The judge replied that suspects had already been indicted, and witnesses were testifying.

He noted that it would not be appropriate to issue any such order at this stage, adding that he would issue notices and the case would not be adjourned for a long period.

The court then issued a notice to the FIA and adjourned the hearing until Jan 28.
