Students may now select from disciplines such as Information Technology, Health Sciences, Agricultural Science, Entrepreneurship, and Fashion Design starting from Class IX.
The new primary courses will have grades ranging from 100 to 150.
Students will choose their matriculation subjects at the commencement of the ninth grade.
Key courses will be prominently displayed on students’ report cards.
The move has been broadly endorsed by the populace, with numerous individuals commending the government for its progressive strategy.

Parents and educators assert that these additional disciplines will enable kids to cultivate specialized talents and equip them for a competitive global landscape. The School Education Department has directed district education officers to create lists and quantify the kids interested in these new groups for the current academic session.

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikander Hayat underscored that these courses are intended to furnish students with contemporary skills and information. “Previously, matriculation was exclusively available in the science and arts streams.” He stated, “This initiative is a progression towards harmonizing our education system with international standards,” and noted that starting this year, pupils will have the option to select from various groupings.

This unique project has expanded matriculation options in Punjab beyond traditional streams. The government seeks to align education with market demands by providing career-oriented courses, thereby enhancing students’ preparedness for future difficulties.
