As part of a revamped strategy that focuses on early retirement, the Punjab School Education Department chose to retire between 2,000 and 3,000 teachers.

Teachers with education up to matriculation will be given preference for such retirement, according to sources on Friday. Teachers have also been offered the opportunity to voluntarily retire at the age of fifty. Data on all teachers in this age range has been sought by the department.

A proposal to change the retirement policy has been forwarded to the Chief Secretary, according to confirmation from the School Education Department. Only instructors who are 55 years of age or older are eligible for early retirement under the existing regulations.
