Rainfall in Punjab is anticipated to last until October 1.

In several areas of Lahore, there have been reports of intermittent rain, which is a much-needed break from the current weather.

There was a combination of light and heavy rainfall in places like Gulberg, Cantt, Saddar, Model Town, and Ferozepur Road. The Met Department predicts that the city will continue to be gloomy throughout the day, with thunderstorms likely tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the weather has considerably cooled in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi due to rain. At Saidpur Road, the maximum rainfall recorded was 43 mm, while at Gawalmandi, the water level in Nullah Leh has risen to 11 feet, causing worry about possible flooding. In the upcoming days, the Met Office anticipates further rain, particularly in the country’s higher regions.

Rainfall in other cities was likewise uneven. The main bazaar traders in Jhelum faced challenges due to water accumulation in low-lying areas caused by high winds and rain. Similarly, Mandi Bahauddin, Wazirabad, and Faisalabad saw a lot of rain, which produced nice weather but also caused power outages in a few places.

While the heatwave in Mianwali was broken by heavy rains, concerns about flooding in low-lying regions still exist. With temperatures continuing to drop throughout the region, the Met Department has predicted further sporadic rain for Narowal over the next 12 hours.

The rains have relieved millions of people who were suffering from extreme heat and heavy humidity, even though they have caused power outages and flooding in certain locations.

The Motorway Police have issued cautions for cautious driving amid wet weather, and authorities advise the public to drive carefully, especially on slippery roads.

Alert issued by PDMA
In the meantime, rain has caused the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab to issue an alert for several districts in the state, including Lahore. Irfan Ali Kathia, the PDMA DG, has instructed the relevant departments and deputy commissioners throughout the province to maintain vigilance in order to handle the emergency scenario.

He added that all district emergency operation centers, including the provincial control room, had been notified and that the situation was being watched closely after the rain. It has been instructed for Rescue 1122 and other organizations to keep their personnel and equipment informed.

According to Kathia, rain is expected to persist until October 1. She also advised people to exercise caution and avoid areas with hanging wires and electric poles.
