Ghulam Nabi Memon is expected to return to the position of Inspector-General of Police (IGP) as part of a significant overhaul of the police force and civil administration that the recently elected Sindh government is planning.

Ghulam Nabi Memon has been suggested by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah for the Sindh IGP position, with the endorsement of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leadership.

Asif Haider Shah’s nomination has been confirmed for the position of Chief Secretary of Sindh. He was the Commissioner for Hyderabad and Karachi.

CM Shah had said he has chosen to conduct a significant restructuring in the police department and civil administration, calling the state of peace and order in the province’s rural and urban areas utterly unacceptable.

During a news conference, the chief minister expressed his dissatisfaction with the state of law and order in the province and acknowledged that the security situation in Karachi and rural regions, especially the riverine zone, was concerning.

He declared, “I have decided to make a major reshuffle in the police department,” and he went on to say that, after his cabinet was formed after the presidential election, major changes would also be made in district administrations.

It was announced earlier in the day that the first segment of the oath-taking will involve about ten members of the Sindh government.

The provincial government will include, according to sources, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Sharjeel Inam Memon, Syed Sardar Shah, Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, Saeed Ghani, and others.
