Situation in the Middle East: Pakistan Demands a Reduction in Hostilities in the Region

Published

on

In addition to expressing great worry over the rising hostilities in the Middle East and pleading with all parties to prioritise peace, Pakistan has urged for the de-escalation of hostilities and the resolution of conflicts there.

The UN Security Council is being called upon to preserve regional peace and security, protect Lebanon’s sovereignty, and stop the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, according to a statement released by the Foreign Office Spokesperson.

A two-state solution that addresses the Palestinian issue in a fair and comprehensive manner while adhering to pertinent UN and OIC resolutions and international law has been persistently supported by Pakistan as the means of achieving long-term peace in the Middle East.

Growing violations of UN Charter and international law by Israel in recent months have created a serious humanitarian crisis. By allowing the slaughter in Gaza to continue, Israel has jeopardised the peace and stability of the area. Civilians’ lives are being negatively impacted by the escalating tensions brought up by the military invasion of Lebanon.

It is right that there be no more bloodshed or fear for the people of Palestine, Lebanon, and the surrounding area. The world community must move quickly to defuse the crisis and all parties must withdraw from the edge. There needs to be an immediate response to the culture of impunity and disdain for international law.
