The Judicial Commission of Pakistan, chaired by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, has annulled the Judicial Commission Rules 2010 and ratified the Judicial Commission Rules 2024, which will take effect immediately.

The Judicial Commission of Pakistan has announced that the criteria for appointing a judge will be established in accordance with the constitution and the judge’s oath.

Professional credentials, abilities, attitude, integrity, and experience will be evaluated for the appointment and promotion of judges, ensuring adequate representation of attorneys and judicial officers in the process.

For judicial officers, seniority may be considered alongside the established qualifications and standards.

The new regulations underscored the significance of diversity in appointments, and the commission will guarantee that the process accurately represents various regions, genders, and religions.

The Judicial Commission shall maintain its secretariat in the Supreme Court building or at a location determined by the chairperson.

The records of the Judicial Commission Secretariat will be maintained, and the operations of the Secretariat shall be executed under the directives of the chairperson.

The Secretariat will apprise the Commission of anticipated vacancies in the Supreme Court, High Courts, and Federal Shariat Court.
