The Supreme Court Bar Association has called for the resignation of Chief Minister Ali Amin and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in response to the use of force against nonviolent demonstrators.

Concerned with the recent crackdown on protesters, the Bar called the authorities’ actions an insult to democratic norms in a sharply worded statement.

The administration should respect the fundamental right to peaceful protest, the statement said, emphasizing that the disproportionate use of force was unacceptable. “We cannot ignore these acts,” the Bar declared, denouncing the violence against people who were expressing their constitutional rights.

In addition to vowing to keep fighting for the defense of civil liberties, the Supreme Court Bar has demanded accountability and openness in the way the case is being handled.

The event has caused significant public indignation, with various political parties and civil society organizations demanding for a probe into the use of force. However, the government has not yet responded to the Bar’s demands in an official manner.

Many people expect further court challenges and public protests in the days ahead as tensions continue to build and the political climate in the nation stays volatile.
