In his conversations with Pakistani authorities, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres addressed the post-election situation in Pakistan and stressed the need for legal mechanisms to settle electoral issues in order to achieve a peaceful handover of power.
He pleaded with all concerned parties to refrain from taking any steps that may heighten hostilities and upend the nation’s peace and order.
Given the intricate nature of the situation in Pakistan, Guterres emphasised the need to respect the interests of the Pakistani people, especially with regard to maintaining the rule of law and human rights.
A spokesman echoed these remarks, stressing how critical it is to protect citizens’ rights and uphold the rule of law.
Another spokesman, Stephen Dujarric, urged Pakistani authorities and political figures to keep things peaceful and supportive in spite of the current situation. The UN’s commitment to promoting stability and amicable communication in Pakistan during this crucial time is reflected in its plea for calm.
