14 escape from Kahuta jail
Fourteen prisoners escaped from a prison vehicle being taken to Rawalpindi near Chakiyan Post in Kahuta and police launched a search operation.
Authorities said the Kahuta Police sprung into swift action following the event and were able to re-arrest four of the escaped detainees, while a search operation for the remaining fugitives is continuing.
One of the prisoners sprayed chilli powder into the eyes of police personnel and the prison vehicle was stopped for inspecting, allowing the inmates to escape, officials added.
Police roped off the area and set up checkpoints in a number of places. Senior police officials have also attended the spot and are directing the search operation.
After the event, security has been further beefed up in Chakiyan and its adjoining areas, as teams continue their efforts to arrest the remaining escaped prisoners.
