The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) has heard a challenge to the interior ministry’s announcement prohibiting the cancellation of passports for individuals seeking asylum overseas.

The appeal asked the supreme court to overturn the government’s June 5 regulation prohibiting passport issuance to foreign asylum seekers.

The petition claims that the notice of the passport ban is discriminatory and violates fundamental rights.

Parties to the petition include the federal government and DG Passport.

In accordance with Section 184(3), attorney Saim Chaudhary filed a petition.

Since the notice did not state why the ban was in place, the petition pleaded parties have been asked to immediately cease implementing the government’s policy.

According to the petition, government notice violates Articles 10, 10A, and 25 of the Constitution.
