Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal has underscored the necessity of promoting balanced population growth for Pakistan’s sustained development and economic stability.

He was speaking at the inauguration event of the National and Provincial Population Projections 2023-2050 in Islamabad today.

The Minister suggested implementing rewards for provinces that effectively manage population increase in accordance with the NFC Award.

He cautioned that if the present growth rate persists, Pakistan’s population may escalate to between 370 and 400 million by 2050, exerting significant strain on health, education, employment, water, food, and other essential services.

He stated that at now, there is no effective motivation for provinces to decrease population growth rates, asserting that provinces exhibiting progress in population control should receive additional incentives and acknowledgment.

Ahsan Iqbal underscored that Pakistan should prioritize not only population growth but also the cultivation of an educated, talented, healthy, and productive human capital foundation.

The administration is dedicated to data-driven governance and is employing modern technology and artificial intelligence to facilitate successful planning in alignment with future national requirements.

He restated his proposition that modifications to the NFC Award should reward provinces demonstrating quantifiable advancements in population stabilization.

The Planning Minister reiterated the government’s dedication to collaborating with provincial administrations to guarantee equitable population growth, human development, and sustainable resource utilization to construct a more robust, balanced, and prosperous Pakistan.
