The energy minister said in a statement released here that during the previous ten years, K-Electric had demanded an extra Rs 20 billion from the ministries of the Sindh government.
“Over Rs 2 billion was overcharged in just the past year, according to an audit,” Syed Nasir Hussain Shah continued.
The energy minister continued by saying that, in an attempt to stop overbilling, the province government had also given the KE billions of rupees to install smart meters, but to no effect.
Despite getting billions of rupees, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah stated, “The KE has yet to install smart meters at Sindh government’s departments.”
In addition to preventing overbilling, the minister claimed that smart meters would have given real-time data.
As government institutions are overcharged for billions of rupees, the minister questioned, “What will be the state of citizens?”
In order to shield the public from KE’s excessive billing, he also declared the formation of a joint committee. The Sindh government will make sure that the overbilling practises of the company do not negatively impact the people of Karachi, according to Syed Nasir Hussain Shah.
Overbilling and unexpected electrical load shedding should halt, according to Syed Nasir Hussain Shah’s earlier statement on May 22.
A meeting regarding the electricity load shedding has also taken place, according to the energy minister of Sindh, who was speaking on the floor of the Sindh Assembly.
Regarding the complaints against K-electric, the minister announced that a meeting will take place in Karachi on Friday.
Our actions are in accordance with protocol and we are supporting the people of the province. He said, “We were unable to seize control of the K-electric.”
