Azam Nazir Tarar: Constitution contains process for imposition of governor’s rule, emergency

Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar said the Constitution clearly lays forth the mechanism for establishing governor’s control and declaring an emergency.

“The governor’s rule or emergency could be imposed, if constitutional conditions and circumstances are such,” Tarar told journalists in Islamabad.

But he cautioned that any such move should be implemented within the framework defined by the Constitution.

Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi in a talk on a private television program questioned why the talk about emergency measures and Governor’s Rule has become so much in focus in recent times.

Referring to the recent occurrences of security in the province, Kundi said that two days back a suicide attack took place in Dera Ismail Khan and on the same day three traffic police officials were slain in Tank.

He also addressed to governance and corruption related issues in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and said that the federal law minister had said that Governor’s Rule might be imposed if the constitutional prerequisites were met.

The comments come amid an ongoing political debate over security and administration in the province.
