Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazir Tarar said the petrol quota for federal ministers has been slashed drastically as part of the government’s austerity effort.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, Azam Nazir Tarar claimed that the monthly allotment of ministers has been decreased from 400 litres to 200 litres. The government has adopted a number of measures for the reduction of expenditure and the improvement of financial discipline.

The austerity drive has led to a dramatic reduction in the privileges and amenities of federal ministers.

There is no scope for more incentives for federal ministers under the current strategy, he said. He stated if anybody has any problem to the 200-litre fuel monthly quota, additional negotiations can be made in this regard.

The Federal Law Minister stated the administration would ensure better use of national resources and reduction of wasteful expenditures. The goal is to adopt austerity measures in various ministries and government agencies.

Azam Nazir Tarar said the reduction in government expenditure will not only lessen pressure on the national exchequer but will also help build financial discipline.

The minister said that the government has already cut down various privileges being availed by ministers and top officials and further steps will be examined under the austerity strategy in future.
