Prime Minister Sharif and his cabinet members, including Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar, gave President Aliyev a warm welcome at the airport.

The dignitary’s arrival was announced by the sound of a 21-gun salute in the backdrop. Upon his arrival, two children, adorned in customary attire, offered him bouquets.

President Aliyev’s itinerary includes discussions with Prime Minister Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari during his visit.

In order to enhance bilateral collaboration, both parties shall participate in thorough deliberations on topics of shared interest.

Furthermore, Pakistan and Azerbaijan are scheduled to sign 15 memoranda of understanding today, representing a noteworthy advancement in the enhancement of bilateral commerce and cooperation. According to sources, these agreements would cover many industries, emphasising the strengthening connections between the two countries.

One of the significant agreements is a preferential trade agreement designed to improve economic relations by offering mutually advantageous terms. In addition, Pakistan and Azerbaijan will sign a transit trade agreement and an aviation service agreement to enhance the efficiency of transporting goods and people between the two countries.

Additionally, the two countries will enter into Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to collaborate in the fields of foreign affairs and the information sector. A preliminary cultural exchange programme will be reciprocated, solidifying the cultural connections between the nations.

The agreements will be ratified during a joint press conference conducted by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the visiting president of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. Furthermore, a trio of federal ministers will convene with President Aliyev tomorrow morning, before engaging in a ceremonial meeting at the Presidential Palace with President Asif Zardari. The Pakistani president will organise a dinner to pay tribute to the Azerbaijani delegation.

President Aliyev’s tour is anticipated to end tomorrow, following the completion of his commitments in Pakistan.

As to a news release from the Foreign Office, the leaders of government of the two nations will have in-depth conversations on topics of shared interest in order to enhance bilateral cooperation.

Minister of State for Petroleum Musadik Malik revealed on Wednesday that Azerbaijan is contemplating an investment of $2 to $3 billion in Pakistan, specifically targeting the mining industry, which includes oil and gas. Malik emphasised Azerbaijan’s strong enthusiasm for oil and gas exploration and its commitment to expanding investment in the LNG sector.

Minister Malik also highlighted the Prime Minister’s dedication to enhancing economic collaboration with amicable nations, giving priority to investment rather than aid. He conveyed his confidence that President Aliyev’s visit will greatly enhance the trade links between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.

Malik stated that the discussions will focus on boosting textile exports and advancing the IT sector, with the aim of significantly strengthening economic relations between the two countries.

The execution of these agreements and the expected investments indicate a favourable outlook for the relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, promoting economic development and enhancing mutual connections.
