Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has been given a confidential report on the case of Mir Raza.

The provincial cabinet will also take a final decision on the execution of the suggestions.

“The sealed report will be opened and placed before the cabinet at the Chief Minister’s House where the Sindh cabinet meeting will be held,” the spokesperson of the Chief Minister of Sindh said.

The report would be reviewed by the provincial government which would take the final decision on the execution.

This report is being deemed crucial in Mir Raza case as the points and recommendations contained therein can play an important role in the determination of the future course of action.

But the details of the report have not been made public yet, so it is unclear what aspects it highlights, and what steps it recommends.

The judicial commission probing the death of Mir Raza has submitted its probe report to the Sindh government earlier and the provincial administration will determine if the findings should be made public.

The report, comprising four volumes, was submitted in a sealed envelope and accepted by the Additional Secretary Sindh Home Department Javed Abro, sources said. The report and its covering letter are addressed to the chief minister Murad Ali Shah.

The commission’s findings had been handed over to the government and any further action will be taken by the provincial administration, Abro said after receiving the report. The commission’s procedures were in open court, but the report itself had been handed in a sealed envelope, he continued.

Details of the probe show that 49 people gave statements as part of the process. The panel conducted 15 sessions and received two statements by video link. It was created on August 24 to probe the circumstances of Mir Raza’s death.

Mir Raza’s body was recovered from the Gulistan-e-Jauhar district of Karachi on July 29. His death sparked days of demonstrations and an initial post-mortem was followed by an exhumation and a second post-mortem.

The commission’s report is anticipated to provide insight into the circumstances surrounding his death, including whether he was killed or committed suicide. Its conclusions, though, have not been released.

The Sindh government will determine whether or not the report will be made public. Meanwhile, Mir Raza’s family continues to demand the formation of a joint investigation team (JIT) to probe the case.
