Committee appointed to investigate Swat’s Saifullah Lake boat catastrophe

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Friday formed a two-member high-level inquiry committee to probe the Saifullah Lake boat capsizing tragedy in Swat.

As per the official announcement issued by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, Secretary Inter-Provincial Coordination Muhammad Ayaz will chair the committee while Special Secretary Finance Zubair Ahmad will be its member.

The notification says the committee will probe all aspects of the boat catastrophe. It is empowered to seek help of specialists and get records from concerned government ministries. The probe committee has been asked to present its recommendations to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government within 7 days.

The boat involved in the disaster was carrying seven members of a family from Lahore. Rescue teams retrieved six dead and a 17-year-old girl is still missing. She is still being sought by a rescue mission.
