Elections for the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly are ongoing.

Elections for 24 seats in the regional legislature started on Sunday in Gilgit-Baltistan, and voting is scheduled to run continuously until 5 p.m.

With the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) emerging as the main contenders in a campaign characterized by high-profile visits and conflicting pledges for the region’s future, a hotly contested election is anticipated in Gilgit-Baltistan.

There are 958,480 registered voters who can use their right to vote, and 403 candidates are running for office. According to official statistics, there are more than 455,000 female voters and 503,772 male voters.

To guarantee the elections be conducted peacefully, extensive security measures have been implemented.
