Government sources said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called an important meeting of the federal cabinet at 9:30am on Sunday during which important constitutional and administrative decisions are expected to be taken regarding the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The conference, to be chaired by the prime minister, will be attended by federal ministers and evaluate the worsening law and order situation and increasing occurrences of terrorism in the province.

The cabinet will discuss the mounting security issues, terrorist attacks and administrative state of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to government officials.

Police and intelligence agencies are also scheduled to deliver special updates on the situation in the province to the prime minister and the federal cabinet.

Sources stated important issues related to restoration of peace and stability and governance in the province will be on the agenda.

They said that key constitutional and administrative decisions involving Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were expected to be taken at the conference.

The event came a day after President Asif Ali Zardari met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to review the general political and security status of the country.

Sources said the meeting established an accord on the possibility of imposition of governor’s rule or emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Sources stated separate sessions of the National Assembly and Senate had also been called for October 13.
