FIA detains NADRA workers in Charsadda in unlawful CNIC issuing case

The FIA’s Anti-Corruption Circle Peshawar raided a NADRA center in Charsadda and arrested many staffers over the issue of national identity cards to foreign nationals and Afghan citizens.

The operation was undertaken on the directions of Deputy Director FIA Anti-Corruption Circle Peshawar Rana Shahid Habib. Assistant Director Abdul Qayyum supervised the raid.

Officials said they have arrested a NADRA staffer for helping non-citizens to get national identity cards. Those arrested included NADRA’s Assistant Director Waqar Ahmed, Ataullah Jan, Ahmed Raza and Sajjad Ali.

The operation retrieved documents and other vital evidence, sources added. A case has been opened against the arrested officials and investigation has been initiated.

Sources also added that Waqar Ahmed Khan is already facing probes in several cases and enquiries.

Dawn was told by an FIA spokeswoman that raids are being conducted at other places to apprehend more persons suspected to have abetted the alleged crimes.
