Floods generated by cloudburst disturb life in Ghizer, Hunza
Heavy rains and flash floods caused by cloudburst disturbed normal life in sections of Gilgit-Baltistan, shutting roads, damaging houses and agricultural land and interrupting electrical supplies in Ghizer and Hunza.
Flash floods on Saturday damaged residences, crops and orchards in various parts of Ghizer. The Gushgush Jamaat Khana was damaged and fruit trees, crops and agricultural land devastated in Naubahar hamlet due to flooding.
Flooding also closed the road between Immit and Barjangle and damaged power transmission wires on the route. People in the affected areas were left stranded and appealed to the administration to take prompt steps to restore the road links and help those who sustained losses.
The Karakoram Highway is fully stopped between Sost and Khunjerab Top due to landslides, the Gilgit-Baltistan police spokeswoman said. The relevant departments were working to clear the route and tourists were advised to avoid unnecessary travel.
The tourism police, meanwhile, claimed traffic has resumed on the KKH segment between Murtazaabad and Hassanabad in Hunza, which landslides had shut.
