A notice (number F6 of 2024) was released by the electoral watchdog announcing Sadaf Ehsan’s election victory on the National Assembly reserved seat from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), on the other hand, disassociated itself from the lawmaker who was allegedly a party member.

An inquiry into the “inclusion of the name of an unknown woman” in the reservation announcement for seats was demanded by Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

“It is requested that the Commission probe the matter to ascertain whether it occurred by mistake or by deliberation,” the JUI-F supremo said in a letter to the top election commissioner.

According to Maulana Fazl, Miss Sadaf Ihsan was “wrongly notified as she does not belong to JUI-F” and her name was not on the party’s priority list for reserved seats.

Therefore, since Hina Bibi is the sole legitimate candidate, the March 4 notice should be revoked. The letter also stated that “she was on the party’s priority list.”

In response to the news, the ECP said that it had launched an investigation and scheduled a public hearing for March 26 in order to address the problem.

The electoral authority confirmed, “The JUI-F stated in the application that its candidate’s name is Sadaf Yasmin, who has not submitted nomination papers to the ECP.” It said that notices to all parties to settle this dispute have also been sent.

The Sunni Ittehad Council was not given any reserved seats in the National Assembly or the four provincial legislatures by the ECP last week because the group had not provided the commission with a “priority list.”

Eight seats in the NA from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa that were set aside for women have been awarded to parties other than the SIC, according to an ECP notice. Three of them joined the PPP, while four joined the PML-N.
