A legal challenge has been filed against PPP leader Yousuf Raza Gilani’s victory notification in NA-148 Multan. Barrister Taimur Malik has filed an appeal with the Multan bench of the Lahore High Court, attempting to stop the notification process.

The plea will soon be heard by senior Multan bench judge Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar, while the legal dispute around the disputed election result plays out.

The petition is directed against many parties, including the Election Commission of Pakistan, the returning officer (RO), the city police officer (CPO), and Yousuf Raza Gilani personally. The petitioner claims that the RO completed the consolidation process too soon, in violation of Election Rules. As a result, the appeal was filed to address the claimed errors.

The challenge calls into doubt the legitimacy of the results announced in NA-148 as well as the integrity of the election process, which represents a major development in Multan’s electoral environment. Stakeholders are waiting for the court’s ruling, which might change the political climate in the constituency, as legal processes get underway.

The verdict in the court case would not only affect NA-148’s future representation but also stand as a yardstick for the region’s elections’ impartiality and openness. The petitioner has expressed concerns about purported Election Rules infractions, and the High Court’s intervention is expected to resolve these issues and offer clarification in light of the election results’ under investigation status.
