Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has called on the IMF to maintain growing debt relief and concessional financing arrangements to assist vulnerable countries, as well as to concentrate on improving finance for climate resilience.
He was speaking today in Washington at an IMF Managing Director meeting with Finance Ministers, Central Bank Governors, and Heads of MENAP Regional Financial Institutions.
Muhammad Aurangzeb stressed that social protection measures must be incorporated into the IMF’s financing frameworks.
He praised the inclusion of new issues in the evaluation of the debt sustainability framework for low-income countries, including risks associated with climate change, domestic public debt, and complicated debt restructuring scenarios.
