– Pakistan High Commission in London held a solemn function to observe the ‘Jammu and Kashmir Black Day’.

The gathering was attended by British lawmakers including Lord Qurban Hussain, Lord Shaffaq Mohammed, Baroness Nosheena Mobarik, Adnan Hussain MP, Afzal Khan MP and Ayoub Khan MP besides a huge number of British Kashmiris, civil society activists and media professionals.

In his keynote address, High Commissioner Tipu Usman decried the reign of terror and cruel tyranny let loose by the Indian occupation forces in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He said that the people of IIOJK have been facing a brutal and extended military siege where torture, enforced disappearances and extra-judicial killings have been order of the day.

The High Commissioner said that India’s activities were in violation of international law and elementary morality and jeopardised peace and security, not only in the area but the world over.

He appealed to the international community to hold India accountable for the violation of the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, which give the Kashmiri people the right to self-determination.

High Commissioner Usman commended the role of British lawmakers for pressing the Jammu and Kashmir question in Parliament and with the British administration. He emphasised the High Commission’s willingness to collaborate with the lawmakers and the wider Kashmiri community in raising the Kashmir issue.

British legislators and guest speakers, in their remarks, showed solidarity with the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
