Iran’s interior minister visits Pakistan amid escalating US tensions

A high-level delegation led by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni arrived in Pakistan Monday and was cordially received by his Pakistani counterpart Mohsin Naqvi.

The official reception showed the close diplomatic relations of the bordering countries. Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry handed a bouquet to the visiting dignitary while Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghadam was also present at the ceremony.

Welcoming his Iranian counterpart in Islamabad, Mohsin Naqvi termed Momeni as “a brother” and wished him well on his visit in Pakistan.

He said he was sure the visit will bring beneficial results and further reinforce the long-standing connection between the two countries.

Naqvi said the visit of Iranian interior minister would help in deepening bilateral relations and opening new channels of collaboration in a range of areas.

He said Pakistan and Iran are having fraternal relations and they continue to work together closely on matters of mutual interest.

The interior minister also hoped that the talks held during the visit will make meaningful headway on the ongoing regional crisis and other major issues of common concern.

He said more cooperation and greater coordination between Islamabad and Tehran would further cement ties between the two neighboring countries.

Momeni is due to hold talks with Pakistan’s top leadership on a range of bilateral and regional issues during his visit.

The discussions would focus on border security, counter-terrorism cooperation, bilateral relations and the broader security situation in the region, officials said.

The sessions will also give both parties a chance to examine ongoing work and discuss ways to deepen coordination to handle common security problems.

The visit takes place as Pakistan and Iran continue to work together to further cooperation on regional stability, security coordination and other issues of mutual concern through ongoing high-level interaction between the two nations.
