JIU-F and JI abstain from the presidential election

Members of the JUI-F have been instructed not to vote for president by the electoral college.

According to the party statement, JUI members from the Senate, National Assembly, Balochistan Assembly, and Kyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly would not participate in today’s presidential election polls.

Additionally, the JUI abstained from voting in the contests for speaker, deputy speaker, and prime minister.

Pir Sadaruddin Shah Rashdi, the head of the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), had already declared that his party will abstain from the presidential election.

During a news conference, Pir Sadaruddin Shah Rashdi called for GDA employees to join the protest against alleged election tampering and declared support for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Polling for the election has started, and today will see the selection of Pakistan’s 14th president by the Senate, national assembly, and province legislatures.

Polling is open until 4 p.m. and will be conducted by secret ballot.
