– Judge Muhammad Bashir of the accountability court, who jailed the founder of the PTI and former prime minister Mian Nawaz Sharif, has retired.
On March 13, 2012, Bashir was appointed to the accountability court. After 12 years as the judge of the accountability court, he announced his retirement on Thursday.
Maryam Nawaz, retired Cap Safdar, and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif were all condemned by Muhammad Bashir. In the Toshakhana case, he also sentenced Bushra Bibi and the founder of the PTI. In addition, he handled cases against the current president, Asif Ali Zardari.
The charges against former prime ministers Yousaf Raza Gilani, Raja Parvez Ashraf, and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi were also heard by the accountability court judge.
After the Toshakhana case ruling was just announced, Judge Bashir took a medical leave of absence.
Judge Muhammad Bashir of the Accountability Court re-filed his request for a leave of absence till retirement in early February, citing health concerns.According to reports, Judge Bashir had requested a leave of absence for the second time due to severe hypertension.
On January 27, he had already asked for a leave of absence until retirement. He withdrew his request for leave, nevertheless, after the Ministry of Law and Justice denied his plea.
