The suo moto case of the Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) judges’ letter denouncing the purported interference of intelligence services in their judicial work will be heard by a six-member Supreme Court panel on Tuesday
The case will be heard by a bench that is led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and consists of Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Justice Athar Minallah, Justice Musarrat Hilali, and Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan.
The Lahore High Court Bar Association, the Islamabad High Court Bar Association, the Balochistan High Court Bar Association, Aitzaz Ahsan, Mian Dawood, and Sardar Shahbaz Ali Khosa—the six members of the Pakistan Bar Council—filed the petitions, pleading with the highest court to hear the matter.
They insisted that the Supreme Court’s judges conduct a formal investigation into this grave matter.
The petitions that the supreme court is scheduled to consider today were thoroughly examined.
In their most recent letter to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), Justices Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri, Babar Sattar, Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan, Arbab Muhammad Tahir, and Saman Raffat Imtiaz of the IHC claimed that “operatives of intelligence agencies” had engaged in “interference” and “intimidation.”
They asked for advice on how intelligence services could interfere with judicial responsibilities in their letter. Therefore, suo moto proceedings were started by the Supreme Court. The court noted in its judgement dated April 3 that a suo moto notice had been issued due to the gravity of the situation.
