Karachi gears up for central 8th Muharram procession
The main procession of 8th Muharram will begin at Nishtar Park, Karachi today. Mourners will converge to pay tribute to the tremendous sacrifice of Hazrat Abbas (RA), the standard-bearer of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA).
A mourning gathering will be gathered at Nishtar Park at 11am before the procession. Allama Shahenshah Hussain Naqvi, the renowned religious scholar, will address the gathering to emphasize the sacrifices of the martyrs of Karbala and the ideology of martyrdom that is forever.
The parade will start at Sadat-e-Amroha at around 12pm with Abul Hassan Scouts and Amroha Scouts taking the lead.
The participants will continue their customary mourning rites, including recital of elegies and matam, as the procession takes the prescribed path. It will go along Shah Nawaz Bhutto Road, MA Jinnah Road and reach Numaish Chowrangi where Zuhr prayers will be given at Imambargah Ali Raza.
The procession will then proceed along the planned route and culminate at Hussainia Iranian Imambargah, Kharadar.
Special security and traffic preparations have been made to enable mourners during the event, the administration said.
Full provisions have been made for the safety of processions, religious gatherings and sensitive areas, security authorities stated. throughout 5,000 police officers and troops will be deployed to undertake security responsibilities all throughout the city. More personnel, reserve forces and snipers have also been deployed at critical areas and along procession routes.
