Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has blamed TikToker Patlu for using his influence to avoid the law after a stampede in Daska in which two people died and hundreds were injured, demanding for accountability for unchecked social media activities.

Khawaja Asif, in a comment on social media site X, claimed that the tragedy in Daska could not be denounced enough.

He said that a TikToker named Patlu had drawn a large crowd by announcing extravagant prizes including large amounts of cash at his wedding ceremony.

According to the defence minister, the entire event was staged by the TikToker to generate more income, with the announced prizes serving as an investment and social media earnings being the intended return.

Khawaja Asif said the poor of the area’s poor citizens had been mocked, while a rush in the massive gathering caused two individuals to die and dozens of others to be injured.

He said the TikToker was absconding and using his influence to subvert the law enforcement.

Defence minister also warned that uncontrolled social media may be very destructive for society and the state and those responsible should be held accountable.

He also questioned whether the existing tax regulations were being applied to social media personalities who he said were earning billions of rupees through their online activities.

Khawaja Asif demanded transparency and responsibility in their earnings and sought information on taxation and regulation of income earned through social media platforms.
