Lahore has issued an emergency alert as the city’s environment is choking due to smog.

The dangerous air quality brought on by pollution from Delhi, Amritsar, and Chandigarh has prompted the Punjab government to issue an emergency notice for Lahore residents.

Maryam Aurangzeb, the senior provincial minister, has advised residents to exercise caution by wearing masks and keeping doors and windows closed because pollutants from nearby areas are carried in by high winds.

Lahore’s air quality index (AQI) shot up from 800 to 191 yesterday as the winds died down, according to Minister Aurangzeb.

Children and those with heart and respiratory disorders, she stressed, should not be exposed to the outdoors.

“The burning of crop residues in Indian regions has contributed to the increased levels of pollution,” the environment minister said.

The air quality in Lahore is severely impacted by the strong winds, she reaffirmed, making the already dire situation worse.

The chief minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, has also urged all citizens to wear masks in reaction to the deteriorating circumstances. The school day has been rescheduled to 8:45 AM in order to protect students.

Parents and school officials are encouraged to follow safety protocols, making sure that kids wear masks to school. Parents are advised not to send their children to school without adequate protection, as Aurangzeb emphasized that it is crucial for the health of young kids.

As pollution levels in the area continue to rise, residents are urged to report any environmental pollution infractions to Citizen 1373.
