The only elephant at the Karachi Zoo will be moved to the Safari Park next month, where she will join Sonia and Malika, two other elephants, according to the zoo administration. The relocation plans have already been finalized.
The KMC administration said that the elephants have finished their training on how to enter and exit the container and that, with Four Paws’ help, a new sanctuary for the species is becoming ready.
In May, the Madhubala elephant will be moved to Safari Park once the sanctuary is finished, according to the KMC. This will happen in 15 to 20 days.
At Safari Park, there would be three elephants after the arrival of Madhubala.
Four Paws, a global animal welfare nonprofit, sent an eight-person team to Karachi in 2022 to cure four African elephants, including Madhubala.
Years passed while the elephant endured discomfort from a fractured tusk and a tooth illness.
Kaavan, an elephant known as the loneliest in the world, was also moved by The Four Paws from Islamabad to Cambodia in 2020.
