Today, on Wednesday, the freshly elected assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan will have plenary sessions when their members will be sworn in.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly secretariat has released the schedule, which states that the meeting would start at 11 a.m. The process of choosing a new speaker will start after the oath is taken. Up to 5:00 p.m., nomination papers for the speaker and deputy speaker positions may be submitted.
There are 115 general seats in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, which has 145 members. Women are allocated 26 seats, while non-Muslims are allocated 8 seats.
In the general elections on February 8, candidates supported by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) secured 86 seats. Seven seats were won by the JUI-F, five by the PML-N, four by the PPP, two by the PTI-Parliamentary, and one by the ANP.
Balochistan Assembly comprises 65 seats. Of them, 51 are general seats, while 11 seats are reserved for women and three seats are reserved for minorities.
In the Feb 8 elections, the PPP and the JUI-F won 11 seats apiece, while the PML-N returned 10 and the BAP won four seats.
