Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif has vowed to speed up development in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), claiming that every significant development project in the region has the fingerprint of the party, and pledging fresh initiatives if the party comes to power.

Speaking at an election rally in Mirpur, Nawaz Sharif said it was a pleasure for him to return to the city after many years.

He predicted that PML-N will win the election from Mirpur seat and lauded the excitement of the people.

The former prime minister added that his relations with the people of Kashmir were intact and underlined that the PML-N has always taken genuine initiatives for the development of Azad Kashmir.“Every development project in Azad Kashmir has the PML-N’s seal,” he continued, daring his political foes to point out any such success by other parties.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari [Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party] should not take my comments personally, Nawaz Sharif stated. Political rivalry is a feature of democracy but it should never become hatred or violence.

He promised to reverse the fate of Mirpur and rest of Azad Kashmir, saying the region would get same development prospects as other sections of the country.

If electric buses could run in Lahore and Islamabad, the same facility will be introduced in Azad Kashmir as well: Nawaz Sharif.

Maryam Nawaz, Chief Minister Punjab, has come to the province with a “special gift” for its people, he said.

If PML-N wins government in Azad Kashmir, he will personally monitor the fulfilment of the party’s electoral manifesto, he said.

“Education will be our top priority,” he said, promising laptops to every high-achieving student in Azad Kashmir under the party’s proposed education project.
